Getting a Mortgage With Credit Problems
Credit problems narrow the lenders and rates available but do not automatically prevent a mortgage. The type, size and age of the issues matter most.
What lenders look at
Missed payments, defaults, CCJs and other markers are weighed differently by different lenders. Older, smaller or satisfied issues are usually viewed more favourably, alongside your current income and deposit.
Specialist lenders exist for cases high-street lenders decline, often at higher rates.
Preparing
Check your credit files, keep payments up to date and avoid new adverse markers. Be ready to explain past issues.

General mortgage information, not a personal recommendation. Lender criteria and scheme rules can change. Ask an adviser about your circumstances and a solicitor or tax adviser about legal or tax questions. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. Most buy-to-let mortgages are not regulated by the FCA.
