Joint Borrower Sole Proprietor (JBSP) Mortgages
A joint borrower sole proprietor (JBSP) mortgage lets someone — often a parent — help you qualify for a loan without being an owner of the property. It is a specialist arrangement.
How JBSP works
The supporting borrower's income is included in affordability, but only you are on the property's title. This can help a first-time buyer borrow more than on their income alone. Not all lenders offer it.
The supporting borrower is fully responsible for the mortgage even though they do not own the home.
Points to consider
The arrangement affects the supporting borrower's own borrowing and may have tax implications. Everyone involved should take advice before proceeding.
