Remortgaging a Buy-to-Let
Remortgaging a buy-to-let works much like a residential remortgage, but the rental stress test applies and any equity release is assessed on the rent.
How it works
Switch as your deal ends to avoid a higher reversion rate. The new lender applies a rental stress test to the property's income, and you can sometimes release equity to fund another purchase, subject to affordability and the rent.
Product-transfer options with your current lender may involve lighter checks.
Plan for the market
Rising rates can make the stress test harder to pass, so start early and get advice on lenders whose approach suits your property and rent.
