Buying a Home in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland uses Stamp Duty Land Tax like England, but has its own legal process and housing organisations. The mortgage market is UK-wide.
Tax and process
SDLT applies in Northern Ireland on the same basis as England, including first-time buyer relief where eligible. Conveyancing is handled by local solicitors, and Land & Property Services maintains the registers.
Confirm the tax position with your conveyancer.
Your mortgage
Most UK lenders lend in Northern Ireland and advice works the same way. Local housing bodies may offer support subject to their own eligibility.
Sources and further reading
General mortgage information, not a personal recommendation. Lender criteria and scheme rules can change. Ask an adviser about your circumstances and a solicitor or tax adviser about legal or tax questions. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. Most buy-to-let mortgages are not regulated by the FCA.
