Welsh Land Transaction Tax (LTT) Explained

Wales uses Land Transaction Tax (LTT), administered by the Welsh Revenue Authority, instead of Stamp Duty. Its bands and rules differ from England's.

How LTT works

LTT is charged in bands on the price, with a higher-rate surcharge on additional properties. There is no direct equivalent to England's first-time buyer relief, so do not assume English rules apply.

Thresholds can change, so check the current position.

Your conveyancer calculates the LTT due. Use current Welsh Government guidance rather than an England-based figure.
