Mortgage Rate Forecasts and Uncertainty
Everyone wants to know where rates are heading, but forecasts are inherently uncertain. A sound plan does not rely on predicting the market.
Why forecasts are uncertain
Rates depend on many factors that can shift quickly, so even expert forecasts are estimates, not promises. Be wary of anyone guaranteeing future rates or timing.
Markets have already priced in expectations, which is why longer fixes are not always higher than shorter ones.
Planning without predicting
Choose based on your need for certainty and whether your budget copes if rates rise, not on a forecast. Testing a higher rate is a more resilient approach than betting on a fall.
