Remortgaging With Credit Problems
Credit problems do not automatically prevent a remortgage, but they narrow the lenders and rates available. What matters is the type, size and age of any issues.
What lenders consider
Missed payments, defaults or CCJs are weighed differently by different lenders, and older, smaller or satisfied issues are usually viewed more favourably. Your current income and equity also matter.
Check your credit files so you know what a lender will see.
Preparing to switch
Keep payments up to date, avoid new adverse markers and gather evidence explaining past issues. A specialist lender may consider a case a high-street lender declines, sometimes at a higher rate.
