Remortgaging When You're Self-Employed
Self-employed borrowers can remortgage like anyone else, but lenders assess income differently. Being prepared with the right evidence makes the switch smoother.
What lenders want
Expect requests for accounts or tax calculations (SA302s) and tax-year overviews, usually covering one to three years. Sole traders, partnerships and directors are assessed on different figures.
If staying with your current lender via a product transfer, income re-checks may be lighter.
Prepare early
Keep records up to date and start early so any evidence can be gathered without pressure. Advice helps match your figures to suitable lenders.
